My mobile phone doesn’t show any network. What can I do?

If your mobile phone doesn’t show any network, you can determine the reason yourself based on the following points.

  • Check network availability at your location. Use the network coverage map to check the network availability at your location. You can also check current network disruptions online here
  • Simply switch your mobile phone off and on again. In some cases the software stalls. After switching your mobile phone on again, network reception will be restored.
  • Insert your SIM card in an other mobile phone. If the error no longer occurs, the problem is either with the hardware or the SIM card.

You can find out more about network coverage at your location here.

I’m in a place near a national border. What can I do to prevent my mobile phone from logging into the foreign network?

If you’re close to a national border, it may happen that your mobile phone will log into the foreign network even though you’re in Germany. The reason for this is that automatic network selection is activated in most mobile phone settings.

To avoid unwanted roaming costs, you can choose the manual network selection in your mobile phone settings. This means your mobile phone will only log into the network you have selected. Information about your mobile phone settings can be found in the relevant operating instructions.

Internet

What can I do if my Internet isn’t working?

After activating your Ortel Mobile SIM card, you can use mobile Internet immediately. You don’t need to do any additional activation.

If mobile data usage is not possible with your end device, please check the configuration settings of the end device.

Here are some helpful hints:

  • First, make sure that the mobile data is activated.
  • If this is not the case, your mobile phone cannot establish a connection.

How to activate mobile data on Android devices:
(These steps may vary depending on the manufacturer)

  • Open your smartphone settings
  • Go to Wireless and Networks or Connections
  • Here you can choose between different settings. Tap on Data Usage
  • Tick the box or activate the Mobile Data Connection slider

This is how you activate mobile data on iOS devices:

  • Open the settings of your smartphone
  • Go to General.
  • Select the Mobile Network item.
  • Under Mobile Data you now activate the slider

Receive settings via SMS
If mobile data is activated and you still can't access the Internet with your Ortel SIM card, the APN settings may be incorrect. You can simply have them sent to you. Just send an SMS with the word Mobile to the free short code 80215. You’ll receive a configuration message. Open this message and select Install. The settings are then automatically installed.

If the APN settings are not installed automatically, you can also enter the configuration manually.

How to set the APN settings for Android devices:
(These steps may vary depending on the manufacturer)

Settings-> More... -> Mobile networks -> Access points (APNs)

Settings -> Mobile networks -> access points

Here you can adjust the APN settings for iOS devices:

Settings -> General -> Network -> Mobile Data Network

Internet settings - manual:
Connection name WEB GPRS
APN: internet.eplus.de
User name: eplus
Password: internet

If you still cannot use your data, please contact our service hotline.

How much does data usage cost?

The cost of mobile data usage is 49 cents per MB. It is worthwhile booking a data option if you use 20 MB per month or more. You can find appropriate Ortel Mobile data options here.

Please note that other rates are charged for data usage in countries outside the EU. You can find an exact list of rates in the current Ortel Mobile rate card in the download section.

What should I consider when measuring broadband speed? How can I set up an ideal test environment?

Please note that during the measurement process (approx. 40 seconds) no other applications are running (e.g. updates) and do not transfer any other data to your broadband connection during this period.
For this reason you should also close any open tabs in your browser or apps on your mobile device.
The data throughput of your modem / router or end device may deteriorate if your modem / router or end device are unable to use the maximum data transfer rate of your Internet access. For higher data transfer rates (greater than or equal to 100 Mbit/s), it is therefore necessary to use a modem / router and / or end devices that support 1,000 Mbit/s (1 Gbit/s). In order for mobile end devices (smartphones, tablets and mobile routers) to be capable of implementing the currently fastest LTE network, a mobile communications chip with at least LTE cat. 9 (maximum theoretical downlink 375 Mbit/s – uplink 50 Mbit/s) is required.
When measuring your laptop, please measure only with the mains power supply connected. Power saving mode should be disabled.
Please also note that no other end devices (PC, tablets etc.) have access to your broadband connection via LAN or Wi-Fi.

Please ensure that in the event of limited data volume, your data volume has not yet been used up or already been restricted.

Which factors may influence the result of APP measurements?

Several factors may affect the test result. These are mainly

  • The contractually agreed maximum bandwidth of your mobile Internet access (e.g. tariff-related limitation of the data transfer rate in downloading and uploading or restriction after exceeding an included monthly volume)
  • The number of active users who share the same mobile cell and the same network segment with you
  • The device you are testing with
  • The mobile communications technology used (GPRS, UMTS, LTE)
  • The mobile network coverage and supply quality at your location, whether you are inside or outside a building when measuring the mobile service
  • How fast you are moving (e.g. on a motorway or in a train)

It is possible to carry out a measurement via Wi-Fi with the app. Please note that the measurement is in this case not carried out via a mobile phone connection but via a stationary connection.

Which factors may influence the result of web browser measurements?

Several factors may affect the test result. These are mainly

  • The contractually agreed maximum bandwidth of your stationary internet access (e.g. tariff-related limitation of the data transmission rate in downloading and uploading or restriction after exceeding an included monthly volume)
  • The number of active users who share the same network segment with you
  • The device you are testing with
  • The simultaneous use of the same Internet access by other users or programmes (e.g. email, updates, VPN)
  • The quality of your modem / router
  • Carrying out the measurement via Wi-Fi
